New Hampshire abandons proposed online scratchcards project
Hopes that the state of New Hampshire might be among the leaders in introducing a form of internet gambling have been dashed following a decision by the New Hampshire Lottery Commission to scrap the project.
The Commission made good progress in setting up a launch for the PlayNowNH facility, but the brakes were applied by state lawmakers suddenly anxious about the implications of leadership in the field and asking for further debate. It now appears that their efforts to derail the project have been successful.
Observers note that the politicians were also concerned that the proposal had not been presented to them during the budget debates earlier in the year.
PlayNowNH was designed to exploit the online scatch card business model, making internet participation more convenienet for state residents and raising badly needed state revenues.

Importance of in-play betting prompts Ladbrokes to improve its offering
The recent football World Cup illustrated yet again how popular the concept of in-play betting is with a wide range of punters, with some companies reporting that as much as 65% of their betting action came in via in-play facilities.
UK betting group Ladbrokes has clearly recognised this and is currently working on a new and improved technology product to better service the significant demand from gamblers.
This week the group’s senior executive responsible for interactive operations, John O’Reilly, revealed that the new technology would be launched in a series of phases starting within the next eight weeks, and involved significant investment in new technology applications, automated event feeds and staff.
He noted that the new product would markedly increase the range and depth of betting markets on offer by the group, with a greater range of sports, matches and betting options.
Ladbrokes’ experience with in-play technology has so far been encouraging, O’Reilly observed, saying that during the World Cup there was a greater volume of bets on wireless than was the case on telephone facilities, with mobile betting action doubling year-on-year.
The company is expanding internationally with partnerships in the newly liberalised French market and licence applications submitted in Spain and South Africa.
San Miguel exec’s bid for Pagcor could be finished before it has begun
Earlier this week Raymond Ang, a senior executive with the San Miguel food and beverage group, intimated in a press interview that, acting independently he would be putting together a consortium to make a $10 billion offer for the state-owned Philippines gambling group Pagcor, but events since then indicate that he may have been a touch optimistic in his planning.
Ang named as possible partners Malaysian tycoons Robert Kuok, Ananda Krishnan and Francis Yeoh, but it appeares that there is little appetite for the venture.
