The Kentucky supreme court today issued a ruling that it will not lift the freeze by registrars of 141 Internet gambling domain names unless an owner of the names comes forward. While not a final ruling by the Court, the decision is being viewed as a temporary setback by the affected parties. "In the written decision, the Court clearly indicates they agree with our arguments, and are inviting us to refile, so that the technicality of the standing issue can be resolved," said Joe Brennan, iMEGA chairman. Paul Leggett, the chief executive officer of the online poker company Tokwiro Enterprises, announced that his company was canceling their plans for this year’s event on the island of Aruba. The popular poker site Ultimate Bet, purchased by Tokwiro in 2008, had been sponsoring the tournament since 2002. In a press release, Leggett stated that the company, which also owns Absolute Poker, would focus on offering its online players more rewards. The new plans for Ultimate Bet (now known as UB.com) include offering higher guaranteed prize pools for their online tournaments on par with the two leading US-friendly online poker sites, PokerStars and Full Tilt Poker. A gang of four robbers disguised in black motorcycle masks robbed the Grand Hyatt Berlin hotel in a daring daylight robbery during the European Poker Tour poker tournament. The robbers pointed handguns and long knives at a cashier, escaping through a crowded shopping mall with over €100,000 (US$136,000). A hotel security guard was hurt as he forced one of the gang members to drop a bag filled with cash. A handful of players and onlookers were injured while trying to get away from the gang. The tournament hosted more than nine hundred players, with a prize pool of over €3.6 million (US$4.9 million) and a top prize of €1 million (US$1.36 million). MONTGOMERY, Ala. – (Associated Press) – The governor of this Bible Belt state is waging a one-man crusade against gambling – and stirring racial tensions in the process – by sending state troopers on late-night raids to shut down electronic bingo parlors. Republican Bob Riley, a lifelong opponent of gambling, contends the electronic devices are essentially slot machines, which are plainly illegal in Alabama. He formed a task force a year ago to halt their spread. He has forced the shutdown of more than 30 gambling halls – ranging from modest storefront operations to big, glamorous Vegas-style palaces – and idled more than 2,000 workers. Pinnacle Entertainment Pinnacle Entertainment has had one of the best starts to their stock week in recent months, and on Wednesday the rise continued. Pinnacle closed the day up 3.88%, or $.31, ending at $8.29.On Tuesday, Pinnacle won a round in court against the Missouri Gaming Commission regarding the President Casino in St. Louis. The Commission had ruled that Pinnacle could not replace the aging Admiral riverboat that the President resided on. The court sent the resolution back to the Commission for further review.Earlier this year, the Gaming Commission took the first step in closing down the President Casino and stripping Pinnacle of the gaming license. Melco Crown Entertainment For the most part it was an uneventful week for gaming stocks on the US market, but a couple of companies finished the week strongly. Melco Crown Entertainment and Century Casinos both ended on high notes going into the weekend.Melco Crown stock has developed a reputation of going against the trend for gaming stocks. On Friday, however, Melco led the way on a day where increases were seen almost across the board.The stock closed on Friday at $4.04. That represented an increase of 4.66%. Century stock also rose over four percent, closing at $2.50 a share. The two companies combined stock rose $.23 for the day.Las Vegas Sands had itself a strong day as well, rising 2.65%. Full year 2009 results from the Rank Group showed small improvements, although the online gambling division was one of those that under performed last year. Nevertheless, investors will be pleased to hear that a small dividend is in prospect after some tough times with the UK gambling group.

2009 revenues totalled £540 million, up 3.4% year-on-year (2008 FY £522.2 million), generating an EBITDA of £58 million, or 4% lower than the corresponding period in 2008.

The small improvement was mainly due to the performance of the Grosvenor land casino brand, where operating profit rose 19% to £30.9 million.
