The head of the presidential cabinet of Argentina, Anibal Fernandez has announced that the government wants to regulate online casino gambling before the new year. Fernandez says that the process of legalization and regulation may take up to two years.
Fernandez said that the main reason for the plan is to combat unregulated and unlicensed online casinos that accept players from Argentina. Fernandez said: “We’re working so that this will become law within two or three months.” He added that it may take longer, up to two years. Many countries who face this dilemma, are trying to prevent internet casinos from accepting bets from punters in their country. Examples include America, Russia and the Netherlands. The government of Argentina instead, tries to protect consumers by regulating the internet casino gambling industry. Sources from within the government say the internet casino plan is designed to help the government operate it soccer network, and a contribution for the general revenue for the country. Country’s have split views on internet gambling operators outside their jurisdiction. Countries like the US has spend millions, in an attempt to block online gambling, but without success because the US is the biggest market for online gambling. While other countries accept online gambling and regulate gambling to create revenue and protect people against fraud and problem gambling. Fernandez did not comment on rumors that the regulation is to fund the soccer broadcasts, he said: “That’s another subject.”
