Barney Frank’s bills next week for committee

The UIGEA, it has been more talked about than the death of Michael Jackson and has been more discredited than the battle in Afghanistan. The anti-gambling laws of the United States has many opponents, the biggest opponent is Barney Frank, he has introduced 2 bills, one for the delay of the implementation date of the Law on December 1 (HR 2266) and the other to establish full legalization and licensing for online gambling (HR 2266).

The UIGEA is implemented as an attachment to a port security law and never got approved by the committee. Now a few days before the implementation of the anti Internet gambling law, an announcement that the two bills of Barney Frank will be up for discussion in the House of Representatives next week. Thursday, 3th December, the 2 proposals will be discussed by the representatives, a half year after the introduction of the bills. Bill HR 2266 has 53 co-sponsors, and HR 2267 has 63 co-sponsors and has strong support from the gambling industry with names as the Poker Player Alliance (PPA) supporting both bills.

Besides this good news about the proposed legislation for the legalization of online gambling, there is also other good news. A press release by pocketfives.com says that the implementation date for the UIGEA will be delayed for a half year, this half year ends on June 1st, but it is possible that it could be postponed even longer. We have not received Confirmation yet, but expects that Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner on 1 December will comment officially.
