International: Denmark to deregulate gambling market

Tuesday, Denmark’s government took steps to deregulate the country’s gambling market, releasing plans to liberalize the sector. Officials said they will propose their plans as a bill in Danish parliament after the legislature’s members return from Summer Recess. Officials also said they already have the support of many members and expect the bill to pass. According to the Copenhagen Post, the government’s plan could dissolve Denmark’s state-owned gambling monopoly, Danske Spil. Switzerland changes online gambling regulation
The department of justice in Switzerland received the order, to create a draft legislation, with the purpose of licensing an regulating a small number of internet gambling businesses. They do want to keep the ban on gambling through phone and interactive TV. The change in legislation has to be put before the parliament.

Illegal gambling US charged for wrong reasons?
Last week was announced that PartyGaming struck a deal with the US government, to not get prosecuted for their gambling businesses before UIGEA was installed, of 105 million dollar. They claim its for upholding the law, while in the meantime a lot of money goes to the people behind these deals. A similar case in Anderson Indianapolis, which paid 2 million dollar to several government officials, makes this very clear.
The case is about the 71 year old John Neal and his 2 daughters Vicky Massey (53) and Cheryl Eagan (51), who are accused of running an illegal gambling chain in Madison, Delaware and Henry county.

Charges against American casino holder dropt
A prosecutor dropped charges on a Pennsylvanian casino holder Yesterday, he was accused of lying about his contacts with organised crime and other underworld figures. As part of the agreement, he has to turnover the casino to his daughter.
Louis DeNaples a Scranton businessman who owns the Mount Airy Casino Resort in Pennsylvania, was charged with four accounts of perjury, perjury is lying while under oath, he supposedly lied about his connections with organised crime. This connection is with the Mafia family of Russel Bufalino, who are connected to prostitution, extortion and illegal gambling. Also he supposedly had connections with Roman catholic priest Joseph Sica, who was charged with the same counts.

‘Operation Tsunami’ targets gambling operations in the Bahamas
The Freeport in the Bahamas was the scene of some anti-gambling raids and arrests last week as local police moved on companies that they alleged were in breach of the Lottery and Gaming Act and in possession of slot machines, thus operating gambling activities under the guise of legitimate freeport businesses.

International: Frank to introduce pro-gaming bill in April

Wednesday, U.S. Rep. Barney Frank, D – Mass., announced that he will introduce the Gambling Regulation and Enforcement Act (HR 2046) as a standalone bill before the end of April. If passed, the bill could overturn the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act of 2006, which prohibits U.S. financial institutions from processing payments to online-gaming operators. Frank’s bill would regulate and tax online gaming, including wagers made with online casinos, poker rooms and bookmakers. Pro-gaming advocates argue that regulation is the only effective way to protect minors and problem gamblers from online gaming. They also point out that regulating the industry could generate an estimated $50 billion in tax revenue over the next decade.
