Ladbrokes reveals mobile betting up 400% during World Cup
The UK online and land gambling group Ladbrokes revealed Monday that it has already taken 4 times more bets via mobile internet on the currently running 2010 World Cup than it did during the whole of the €2008 football tournament.
Ciaran O’Brien, a company spokesman, said that this rapid growth has been driven by the increase in smart phone ownership, enabling swift access to betting opportunities from any location. The upsurge has seen Ladbrokes break the 100,000 barrier for bets taken over mobile internet services on a single event for the first time.
Ladbrokes launched the first fully functional iPhone betting application in the app store during the World Cup and usage is reportedly rocketing.

WSOP wins for Michael Linn, Chance Kornuth and Ryan Welch
Three more gold bracelets have been awarded to players at the 41st World Series of Poker over the past twenty-four hours as the world’s biggest poker spectacular closes in on the much-anticipated Main Event 57.
Michael Linn bested an entry field of 2,543 in event 49, the last of the $1,500 buy-in No-Limit Hold’em contests this year, in Day 3 action. The field was reduced to 290 players by the end of Day 2, and just 23 started Day 3, with Linn holding the overnight chip lead.
Taylor Larkin shone on Day 3 of the competition, taking out much of the opposition and entering the nine man final table as chip leader, facing Michael Linn, Mikhai Manole, Benjamin Smith, along with Tyler Cornell, Erle Mankin, Justin Zaki, Alexander Kuzmin and Chadwick Grimes.

Tribal gambling interests prove a stumbling block to California online poker proposal
Tuesday’s much anticipated Californian Legislature hearing on the legalisation of online poker in the state made little progress, with proposer Sen. Rod Wright saying he was temporarily putting a hold on the bill whilst he considers concerns raised by opponents.
“This bill still needs a great deal of work,” Wright said of his Bill SB 1485 during a meeting of the Senate Governmental Organization Committee, where the bill was scheduled to come up for a vote.
North Carolina senate votes for ban on internet sweepstake parlours
The state of North Carolina has acted on the vexed issue of Internet sweepstake parlours and the uncertain gambling laws impacted by these offerings. This week the state Senate voted 47 to 1 in favour of a ban on the genre, which has been spreading rapidly across the state as operators and punters try to circumvent a 2006 ban on traditional video poker machines.
