The downside for Playboy Gaming is the casino closure comes at the most inopportune time. The new administration in the US is taking power in less than two weeks, and there is widespread speculation that sometime in the near future they may regulate the online gambling industry.
Once regulated, the US online industry will become a huge money maker for companies with online casinos. The US will still have to license online operators, but with Playboy’s brand behind them, the company had a strong shot at being considered for one of those licenses.
The online casino site played off of the success of Playboy. There were various links between players and the Playboy world. Player points were able to be redeemed for Playboy merchandise and trips to Las Vegas’ Playboy Club.
